Since the start of the 2018-2019 winter season, ice dragon boat races have been thriving across China. Events have successively kicked off in Beijing, Harbin, Duolun, 

Ningxia and other regions, becoming the most distinctive and popular team sport this winter. It has added a new event to winter national fitness activities and a new platform 

for 300 million people to participate in ice and snow sports.

2019 "Changtong Cup" Ice Dragon Boat Race at the 2nd Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Winter Games Opens in Duolun, Xilingol League

On the morning of January 20, the 2019 "Changtong Cup" Ice Dragon Boat Race at the 2nd Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Winter Games opened in Duolun County, Xilingol 

League. More than 700 athletes from 42 teams gathered in Duolunnuoer. This event was hosted by the Sports Bureau of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the Administrative 

Office of Xilingol League, and undertaken by the Bureau of Culture, Sports, Press, Publication, Radio and Television of Xilingol League, the Tourism Development Commission of Xilingol 

League, the People’s Government of Duolun County and other units.

Opening Ceremony of the Event

The event lasted for two days, adopting the format of preliminary rounds, quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals. Finally, the top 8 teams were selected for each individual event. 

Meanwhile, the Regional Sports Bureau will select outstanding teams from all participating teams to take part in the upcoming test event of the ice dragon boat project at the 

14th National Winter Games.

This event is a vivid practice of the goal of "300 million people participating in ice and snow sports". Taking this event as an opportunity, Duolun County continues to promote 

the popularization of ice dragon boat, contributing to hosting the ice dragon boat event of the 14th National Winter Games and the goal of including dragon boat sports in the 

Olympic family.

National Mass Winter Sports Promotion and Popularization Activity

The launching ceremony of the Ningxia venue for the "2018-2019 National Mass Winter Sports Promotion and Popularization Activity" and the "Winter Fitness Challenge Day" 

concluded on January 20. The "Winter Fitness Challenge Day" was guided by the Mass Sports Department of the General Administration of Sport of China, hosted by the Sports 

Bureau of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and the Ningxia Sports Federation, undertaken by the People’s Government of Jinfeng District, Yinchuan City, the Social Sports 

Service Center of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and the Sports Industry Center of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and promoted by Titan Sports Media Group Co., Ltd. 

and Beijing Titan Hu'ao Sports Culture Development Co., Ltd. Leaders and guests attended the event, including Yang Peijun, Vice Chairman of the People’s Government of the 

Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Wu Tao, Deputy Secretary-General of the People’s Government of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Sa Chengxian, Director of the Sports 

Bureau of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, He Hongyu, Director of the Event Department of the Mass Sports Department of the General Administration of Sport of China, and

Long Qingquan, weightlifting champion of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The event was held at the ski resort and ice rink of Yuehai Park in Jinfeng District, Yinchuan City, featuring a variety of ice and snow projects. It included collective 

projects participated by teams from three districts, two counties and one city in Yinchuan, such as the Ice Dragon Boat Challenge, Snow Tug-of-War, Snow Football 

Championship and Snow Relay Race, as well as individual projects open for on-site registration and participation, including Challenge for Snowball Throwing King, 

Challenge for Snowball Pushing King, Challenge for Snow Slope Snow Tube Pulling King and Challenge for Ice Cart Sprint King. A large number of ice and snow projects 

enabled the public to quickly participate and share the joy of ice and snow.

The launching ceremony of the Ningxia venue for the "2018-2019 National Mass Winter Sports Promotion and Popularization Activity" and the "Winter Fitness Challenge Day" 

enriched the winter activities for the public in Ningxia, allowing them to experience ice and snow sports. It also made positive efforts to help achieve the goal of "300 million 

people participating in ice and snow sports" for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Harbin Employees' Series of Ice and Snow Activities with the Theme "Love Ice and Snow, Love Hometown, Promote Revitalization"

And the 1st City-wide Employees' Ice Dragon Boat, Ice Sailing and Ice Gaa Competition

On the afternoon of January 19, the Harbin Employees' Series of Ice and Snow Activities with the theme "Love Ice and Snow, Love Hometown, Promote Revitalization" and the 

1st City-wide Employees' Ice Dragon Boat, Ice Sailing and Ice Gaa Competition were held at the Harbin Federation of Trade Unions Wharf on the Songhua River. Nearly 1,000 

athletes participated, including 23 ice dragon boat teams, 42 ice sailing teams from trade unions of all districts, counties, industries, bureaus (companies) and enterprises, as well 

as athletes participating in the ice gaa fun competition.

The 1st Beijing Ice Dragon Boat Race and the 3rd Duolun Ice Dragon Boat Race were reported by many mainstream media and authoritative sports media, including 

CCTV News (CCTV1, CCTV13), CGTN (China Global Television Network), the General Administration of Sport of China, China Sports Daily, Xinhua News Agency, 

People’s Network, Sina, Sohu and Eastday.com, exciting people across the country.

At the same time, many ice dragon boat races were held enthusiastically across China. With events coming one after another, people of different occupations, ages and 

even nationalities scrambled to participate!

3rd Yichun · Tangwanghe Ice Dragon Boat Open

On December 16, 2018, the 3rd Yichun · Tangwanghe Ice Dragon Boat Open was held in Tangwanghe, Yichun City. This event was one of the three events of the 

Yichun Joy Ice and Snow Festival. Taking ice dragon boat as an opportunity and platform, Tangwanghe holds the event every year to invite tourists from the region, 

the city and across the country, building a well-known domestic scenic spot.

China Top Universities Ice Dragon Boat Invitational Tournament at Wudalianchi Volcanic Barrier Lake

On December 23, 2018, 9 teams composed of 81 college students from 9 famous national universities, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Nanjing University, 

Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, University of Science and Technology of China, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University and Harbin Institute of Technology, 

competed fiercely. Among the participating teams, international students from countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Malaysia and Singapore also 

actively participated.

Top university students from across China gathered in Wudalianchi to launch an ice competition. The participation of international students from various universities allowed 

everyone to better feel the integration of sports and culture.

1st "China Dragon Hometown" Boundary River Ice Dragon Boat Challenge

On December 28, 2018, new and old friends gathered in Jiayin, a border town in northern China. In the passionate "Dragon Hometown" by the boundary river, they jointly 

kicked off the 1st "China Dragon Hometown" Boundary River Ice Dragon Boat Challenge. It attracted 12 Russian friends and ice and snow sports enthusiasts from inside 

and outside the province to gather in the Dragon Hometown, challenging the cold and competing passionately.

Dragons Dancing Over Hundreds of Lakes, Charming Daqing

2019 Daqing 1st Ice Dragon Boat Invitational Tournament

On January 1, 2019, the first day of the new year, Liming Lake in Daqing City was crowded with people and decorated with colorful flags. The "Dragons Dancing Over 

Hundreds of Lakes" 2019 Daqing 1st Ice Dragon Boat Invitational Tournament and the launching ceremony of the Liming Lake Ice and Snow Park were grandly held at 

the Liming Lake Ice and Snow Park in Daqing. A total of more than 200 athletes from 16 teams across the country participated.

1st Jinzhou City Ice Dragon Boat Race

On January 5, 2019, the opening ceremony of the 1st Jinzhou City Games Ice Dragon Boat Race and the launching ceremony of the ice and snow sports winter camp 

activity entering campuses were held at the ice rink west of the South Bridge in the urban section of the Xiaoling River. A total of 8 teams with more than 100 athletes 

registered for the competition. With the sonorous sound of gongs and drums, the participating dragon boats lined up in a row on the silver ice. The participating athletes 

went all out, rushed forward at high speed and competed fiercely for the championship.

Ice dragon boat has endowed traditional Chinese dragon boat with new connotations, which is a major innovation of traditional Chinese water dragon boat sports. It has 

enriched the content of winter ice and snow sports in northern China and opened up a new world for national fitness activities in northern winter. At the same time, it has 

added new projects and platforms for winter tourism.

As the official organization for ice dragon boat sports, the International Ice Dragon Boat Federation (IIDBF) still firmly adheres to its responsibilities and directions today 

with the vigorous development of ice dragon boat sports. It takes promoting ice dragon boat sports and culture worldwide as its mission, contributes to the integration of 

ice dragon boat sports and dragon boat culture with the cultures of all countries and nations in the world, and provides services and support for the multi-dimensional 

development of ice dragon boat sports.
